Lotta Lovin got up in the final few jumps to triumph in Turfway Park's $50,000 Gowell S. for 2-year-old fillies on Dec. 26. The six furlong Gowell marks the first stakes win for the daughter of Repent, who is Florida's leading sire of juveniles, now with five stakes-winning juveniles and $855,273 in earnings for the year.

Lotta Lovin, who was making her first start at Turfway, settled in the fourth spot down the backstretch. Jockey Victor Lebron began his move on the turn, going four wide as the field straightened for the wire. In the final furlong, Lotta Lovin was under heavy pressure from a pair of foes to her inside, but she would not be denied, getting up by a half-length in a time of 1:12 on the Polytrack.

"She broke a little outward and I had to get into her mouth a little bit to direct her," said Lebron. "But then I placed her and she seemed comfortable with it, so I left her there, kind of cruising, trying to time it right. There were two in front and they were battling, so I thought, okay, if they come back just a little bit I'll be right there on the money."

Owned by William Butler, Lotta Lovin has earned $75,853. She was bred in Pennsylvania by Horses of Course Inc. and is out of Passionate Terri, who has also produced the four-time stakes winner Passionate Bird.

Due to the direction of Florida's Thoroughbred industry and the early success of the Vinery stallion Congrats—whom Sykes owns in partnership with Vinery—Sykes has decided to utilize the Reddick property for stallion service once again... > more
